Trauma Therapy

“…Through such bleak winter journeys we eventually come through a hidden door into a bright field of springtime that we could never have discovered otherwise.”
John O’Donohue

We hold memories of our experiences on many levels: cognitively, emotionally, physically and energetically. Therefore, when we experience a challenging, painful or traumatic situation we carry the memory and emotions connected with it, and our body also holds a memory of this. Our response to present situations may be influenced by past memories held within us, often without us being consciously aware of this. Sometimes our responses may be inappropriate or unhealthy for us, and may impact on various aspects of our life.

From my experience, when working with an individual who has experienced any form of trauma, it is important to incorporate a holistic approach to enable healing on all levels.

I am qualified and experienced in Somatic Trauma Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing). Both of these approaches are particularly effective in working with upsetting experiences and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Somatic Trauma Therapy combines an integration of psychotherapy and body psychotherapy. EMDR is a specialised psychotherapy. It integrates elements from a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches: Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural, Interpersonal, Experiential and Body Centred therapies. EMDR also involves the use of eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (hand tapping or audio tones) which in turn stimulate the brain’s information processing system.

I have also found EMDR to be effective in helping with adoption issues, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, issues with eating, bereavement, somatic issues, pain management and addictions.
